The Jewish Community Federation of Richmond has launched The Pearl Society, a new young women’s giving society. The Pearl Society recognizes young women who want to give from the heart and feel a connection to the Jewish community by making a gift of $180 or more to the Jewish Federation’s Annual Campaign. The Pearl Society will focus on community service and deepening the connection of young women to their Jewish identity and the legacy of Tzedakah.
The Pearl Society’s co-chairs, Robin Adolf Salzberg and Melanie Stein Grossman, hosted the launch party on December 13th at Salzberg’s home. Over 30 women attended the event and listened to Robin and Melanie share their personal stories about what Jewish philanthropy means to them. They also heard from board members and Lions of Judah, Ellen Renee Adams and Susie Adolf, about the importance of women’s philanthropy and their desire to instill the Jewish value of tzedakah and tikkun olam in the next generation of young leaders.
To recognize women in this giving society, a silver pendant in the shape of a hamsa (hand) with a pearl inset is available. Membership in the society requires a minimum annual contribution of $180. The different levels within the society are $180 Pearl, $365 Blush Pearl, $500 Black Pearl, and a $1,000 Gold Pearl.
Co-chairs Adolf and Grossman “pinned” 3 other Pearl Society members – Karen Farzad, Danielle Aaronson, and Geri Adler. Others will be pinned at the next event. These new Pearls will represent a new generation of women philanthropists who want to make a difference in the Jewish community locally, in Israel, and across the globe. More events are planned for the spring 2017 season.
