Teaching Israel to Teens Today

Want a local, Jewish teen to experience Israel, develop deep friendships and participate in an amazing Tikun Olam experience? The JCFR’s Tikun Olam Summer Exchange is for you!

Our Partnership2Gether (P2G) Tikun Olam Summer Exchange Trip is a once in a lifetime experience. Every summer, Richmond teens are hosted by families in our Israeli sister-city of Hadera-Eiron. Based on the P2G concept of people-to-people engagement, teens travel through Israel with both American and Israeli teens, making friends from ten Southeast U.S. communities and Israeli peers. This incredible opportunity combines touring and community service, planned programs and free time with a host Israeli family. Participants report feeling as though they’ve become a part of an Israeli family. This year’s teen Israel trip will run from June 25 - July 10 and costs only $1,000 per participant (not including domestic travel).

Then in mid-August, about a month after the trip to Israel, the Israeli teen participants travel to Richmond and are home-hosted for two weeks. While here, they participate in Tikun Olam activities, staff the JCFR’s Camp Sababa and tour the area. The friendships developed on this trip last a lifetime and will provide endless opportunities for connections with both Americans and Israelis.

Note: Applications for participation in the 2018 Tikun Olam Summer Exchange are due no later than March 1, 2018.

Community members interested in learning more or teens interested in applying to the program should contact Daniel “Doni” Fogel, JCFR Director of Israel and Overseas Programming at DFogel@JewishRichmond.org or 804-545-8626.
