In this class we will be looking at Life in Jerusalem during the First Temple period, from about
the years 1000 BCE (King David coming to the throne) to 500 CE (the rebuilding of the city
after the destruction of the First Temple). We will look at texts from the Tanakh along with
archaeological finds that inform us about what the houses looked like, cooking and storage
vessels, the water system, their burial customs, money and trade, small personal-use items, and lots more. Please join us for this fascinating glimpse of ancient Jerusalem. In our November class, we will be looking at some of these same topics, but in the later Second Temple period (around 37 BCE to 70 CE).
Each class in this series is an independent topic, so, even if you have never joined us before, feel free to “drop in”!
